Product Description
The RO Pure Reverse Osmosis System consists of four separate filtration stages to provide you with clean, delicious tasting water. This kit includes one RO Pure Reverse Osmosis Module with pre-installed filters, 3 gallon storage tank, and chrome, monitored, top mount, air-gap faucet. Changing filters is easy with the unique swivel-valve, push-button assembly allowing for one-step filter changes that do not require you to shut off your water source. It is important that this system is properly installed and maintained with an incoming water pressure of 40 to 80 psi for it to operate as designed. Four stages of filtration trap particulate matter and ensure a greater reduction of chlorine and other materials that cause bad taste and odors. This kit contains everything you need to maintain crystal clear, high quality, and great tasting water. In order to maintain your system in its top performance it is recommended to change out both the Sediment and Carbon Pre-Filters every 6 months, the Carbon Post-Filter every year and the Membrane every 2 to 5 years depending on the quality of your incoming water supply.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
After much research, I decided on this Watts Premier. I will not bother detailing specification comparisons because those are readily available on the Internet and all these systems essentially provide same filter performance. Since my plumbing was already setup for this system by Culligan, I figured no big deal in switching out. More on that later. Anyway, the product arrived and I was not dissapointed. The product was packed very well with no missing items. The system is comprised of quality components all around. The tank was actually better made and larger than my Culligan tank (8 years old). The filter components are made of quality material and far easier to replace than those on my Culligan system. The supplied quick connectors worked great. Everything is color coded and instructions are OK, though a little more detail would be warranted. The faucet provided is actually better quality than my Culligan faucet and has a filter replacement indicator light. Note that the faucet is Chrome. I did not mind even though all the faucet hardware is Nickel- but some may mind.
Installation was fairly simple. As I said, I was replacing a Culligan system (allow more time if you are not replacing an existing plumbed system). So, I did not need to drill through my granite to install the faucet (I would get a pro to do that). The existing hole was a little small, but I managed to make it work. My drain pipe and cold water feed was already plumbed as well as my inline to the refrigerator water supply. The main issue I ran into was tubing diameter. Culligan used 3/8" whereas Watts uses 1/4". The 1/4" seems to be the new standard and I actually noticed increased water pressure post-filter compared to the Culligan system. But, because of the difference in diameter, I had to change out some quick connector connections. This is where I would dock 1/2 star from my rating if I could. It turns out Watts does not include a Tee Quick Connector for connecting the system to the refigerator water supply. I am sure Watts did not include it because they figured you already had one or did not want one. In my case however, I had to transition from 3/8" to 1/4". I ended up ordering the part ( Celcon Push-to-Connect Tube Fitting, Acetal Copolymer, Tee, Tube OD ) from Amazon for about $4 cheaper (free shipping) than my local Home Depot, which did not have any in stock anyway (they wanted me to buy an entire kit).
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION I recommend you read the instructions carefully, gather needed tools, and layout all the parts. There are not so many parts that you will find installation overwhelming. In fact, I was left wondering why I had not done this before since it would be cheaper for me to replace the entire system every year instead of having personal service. Installation time to replace exisyting system is about 45 minutes. Without existing system, I would plan for 2 hours.
AFTER INSTALLATION be sure to check for leaks after youu turn water on. Check regularly for a few days. I could not detect any leaks with the Watts. Post installation, the Watts requires you flush the system 4 times prior to consuming water from the system. This will take place over a 24 hr period. You simply let the system fill the holding tank and then drain entirely (emphasis added). Repeat 3 more times. I suspect those reviewers complaining of a "plastic" taste upon first use are not performing this step 4 times and/or accurately. Remember, you need to completely drain the system (empty the tank). The first few glasses of water appeared "milky white." This is due to air in the system and is normal. The water is fine (if you let the glass sit for a minute or two, it becomes crystal clear). It went away after two days.
SPECIAL NOTES: If you detect leaking from any quick connections, chances are you did not insert tubing far enough. Simply try to push tubing in further- don't be gentle. The noise you hear in the drain is normal during filtraion process. It can be a bit annoying. My Culligan never made this noise, but the Watts is a different design. This noise is the result from water that did not make it through the membrane filter and IS NORMAL for this design.
Alright. First, it seems to waste more water than my old system. I am hoping to plumb the waste water to a holding tank, add a pump, as use that for the garden. A valve and a t-line, as winter... well... Once that tank is full, anyway, I don't really have a use for it in the winter, save as a full tank of wash water in case of an emergency. And, really, it would still be river water, in an disaster, for even drinking. Just saying. I am not knocking a star off, as this may simply be a bit more... industrious in it's efforts. Oh... but oddly? When this drains, even that is quieter. I don't even know how that is possible. It is a bit noisier during use, whining or something after a few seconds of continuous use. But after I got used to it, it's not an issue. I even use it to get my cats to do a Brave Sir Roberts skit.
The good.
It was easy to install. I am older, have a bad heart, so tinkering under a sink is more of a young man's thing to my thinking, but... *tag* I am it. But I got it done without too much fuss. I didn't read the instructions before hand, just as I was installing. Other than having to replace failed valves under the sink, then replace the replacements, the chore went well. [ Off the subject and by the way, if you are replacing valves, just go for all brass/copper. The half-turn valves, while they work nifty, have a plastic valve stem. One of my new ones broke after six cycles. And I WAS being gentle... feared just that. Just some advice. More advice? You'll have to work for it though, the hardware store employees don't like you getting uppity and won't help you. Expect to be on your own with that. They want you to buy plastic junk.]
It runs well. I think it is quieter than the last one I bought, overall. Water tastes as good as I expected. I haven't changed cartridges yet, but I am looking forward to it with this one. The reason I bought this one wasn't because the old one didn't do it's job. The old one also had easy to change cylinders. However, being a Sears product, it had proprietary parts. When I went to replace the mount for the faucet to the sink, the three parts needed (cheap pot-metal and plastic at that), that I was sure of, would have totaled $150 dollars, not sure how much they would have overcharged for shipping, but I know they would have scalped me there too. So... I went looking for a more reasonable system to work with. The way this faucet goes in I will never have to worry about it breaking off. I don't live in tornado country anymore.
If I have issues, I'll post an update, detailing how Watts Premier solves it. I am working with them, currently, on a faucet of theirs that I purchased, and they do seem reasonable. Hopefully, however, there won't be a problem.

This is my 3rd system I have purchased from watts. The previous two were purchased and installed for parents and in laws.
The weakest part of the system is the faucet’s air gap drain valve where brine and it’s impurities can clog the air gap over time then flood the countertop. I opted for a check valve and bypass the air gap altogether. I also added a permeate pump on one of them improving the production efficiency.

After 30 days, I'm still having issue with the Faucet. Leaking when is doing the recharge to fill the tank.
The Faucet is not able to support, I decresed the water presion to little beat and still leaking, now I don't fell happy with the system.
